Guess who's another year older?

Happy 7th Birthday my sweet Nora!
She's been wishing for a night at a hotel with a pool for several months now and is being a good sport patiently waiting for this Birthday wish.  We won't be able to tonight, but following our vacation to KY for the 4th of July we will get to accompany David on one of his nearby business trips to Kemah, TX and THEN we will celebrate her belated birthday then! :)

Tonight, we are at Soccer Camp cheering on Olivia and Paul Thomas and then will hit the "D.Q." for a birthday supper and treat!

All Abord the Reading Train!

Can you spot a reader in the engine of this locomotive play area???  Yep, that's Nora up there curled up reading her latest book!  I tried to get her to choose a cooler area to do her reading, but to a soon to be 7 year old, there seems to be NO OTHER reading spot that is cooler than at the window in this train play area just outside of our library! :)

It seems that my girl has found a book series that she loves!  This summer she and I began by reading the first Judy Moody book by Megan McDonald.  It was a Nook $0.99 special and I thought it looked like something she might like so I purchased and downloaded it.

We took turns reading pages at night after bath time and we were both hooked!  Now she checks them out at the library each week!!  I recently started paying her a nickel for each book she reads so that at the end of the day she has several coins to add to her piggy bank but for chapter books she earns a quarter.  She also negioated to me that if she starts and ends the same book in the same day can she get another quarter???!  PLEASE???

Well how do you say no to that?  I'm just happy she loves reading!

Just for Fun Friday - If my body were a car....

If My Body Were a Car
This is just too funny - scary how true it is!!

IF MY BODY WAS A CAR...
If my body were a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model.
I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull ...
But that's not the worst of it.

My headlights are out of focus and it's especially hard to see things up close
My traction is not as graceful as it once was.
I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather.
My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins.
It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed.
My fuel rate burns inefficiently.
But here's the worst of it --

Almost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter, either my radiator leaks
or my exhaust backfires!

In the Mood to Read!

Yesterday I blogged about PT and his adventure with the claw truck before going to the library.  Well today I want to share with you about Nora's book she picked out.
Together we read the first book in the Judy Moody series last week, so yesterday when she spotted them at the library she grabbed book #2 and sat down and started reading while I followed behind the twins around the children's room.
but Nora picked up this title today and dove right in and read it all around town and while driving home. She's already on page 98 and only 2 more chapters to go! She came right in from the van and into the house to a comfy chair and wants to finish it. :) Guess we'll be visiting the library again tomorrow to pick up book #3
For several months now I've been giving her a nickel for each book she reads but today I gave her a DIME and you should have seen her eyes!!! I told her that it was because she read this chapter book all in one day and she was so excited skipping up the stairs to go put it in her piggy bank. She has already asked if we can take her library book back tomorrow and go check out #3 in the series. :)
Nora gives 2 thumbs up for the 2nd Judy Moody book!

I love my READER!

Love from Texas!

this is the BEST DAY EB-BUR!

Yesterday after Music Class we stopped by the house to get our library books and take back.  But before we even out of the driveway we saw the truck that comes by every month to pick up large rubbish and also appliances.

Olivia was asleep in her seat and didn't even wake up when Paul Thomas yelled "WOOK! A truck with a CLAW!!! WOOK! WOOK!"
So naturally I turned down the street and followed the truck so we could see it in action.  And guess what?  When I told the man, "Mr. Willy" what we were up to - he invited Paul Thomas to HELP him!!!  :)
After they were finished, I told the man that Paul Thomas' Granddaddy would be so proud to know that he loves heavy equipment like he does b/c he worked operating a Backhoe, but that he died in a car accident years before I married my husband.  Mr. Willie then said to be on the lookout for him every month and that he'd be happy to let Paul Thomas be his helper anytime we saw him out in our neighborhood. :)

It was no surprise that when we finally made it to the library, Paul Thomas went and found a book called "Barney Backhoe" ;)  When the librarian asked him if he liked diggers? Boy did he ever have a big story to share with her!

I heard him tell her at least a half a dozen times, "THIS IS THE BEST DAY EB-BUR!" ;)

Thanks to my husband and our sacrifices we choose to make, I'm so very GRATEFUL that I'm a Stay-At-Home Momma so that we can make these kinds of memories!!!

A Thunderstorm with HAIL!

I can't remember the last time it hailed.  But today the sky suddenly darkened and the bottom fell out!

The kids followed me out to the garage when I went to take photos and had a lot of fun darting out to grab an ice and hold. OOOoough so cold!

Hot-Hot-HOT!

Can you believe this???  When I took the photo - it wasn't even the hottest part of the day yet!!

KBMT-12 Today, (6/5/11) was the hottest day in SETX in almost 11 years.

Today's Record High of 104 degrees was the hottest since Sept 5, 2000.

In fact, there has only been 17 times in the weather history of SETX that we have hit 104 or above since the area was settled and records began - well over 100 years.

The hottest it's ever been here since records began was 108 July 8, 1902 and again Aug 31, 2000.

Just For Fun Friday - Sell my stuff when I die

The older you are and the longer you have been married, the funnier this is.....

One lazy Sunday morning the wife and I were quiet and thoughtful,
sitting around the breakfast table when I said to her unexpectedly,

"When I die, I want you to sell all my stuff, immediately."

"Now why would you want me to do something like that?" she asked.

"I figure a woman as fine as yourself would eventually remarry
and I don't want some other asshole using my stuff."

She looked at me intently and said:
"What makes you think I'd marry another asshole?"
