Great news and more Great news

The first great news is that the kids and I are now in Kentucky staying at my Dad's home. We left Jackson, MS yesterday and drove up. It took me 10 hours and 9 minutes. NOT bad considering when I stopped... it was for an hour or more each time. I am so glad to be home and so glad I drove yesterday... if I'd waited until today or later... it would have been terrible drivin in such wind and rain!

The other GREAT news is - that I talked with my husband and he is SAFE and doing OK. He didn't get to leave the shelter yesterday until around 3-4pm to go looking to asses damage. He went downtown first and saw all the flooding and then out to his plant where they found 4-5 feet of water in all of the administration buildings. :( He said that in his office water was up over top of his desk! :(

but that when he went to our home - that he was able to drive all the way to our home...(with Hurricane Rita) he couldn't drive in past the first block b/c of so many trees down... and that our Roof was still there - windows all OK and NO FLOODING! :) :) :)

and more great news... that after about 2 hours on the phone with AT&T this afternoon.... I'm now able to use my cell phone as a modem to make updates! which is good b/c at my dad's house there is no other way to connect to the Internet to let anyone know. :) (in MS I used my friends computer at their home)

so I'll be here in KY for at least a couple of weeks... time really unknown. It all depends on how long until electricity is restored in the SE Texas region.... Both days I was traveling to MS and to KY I passed at least 200 or more bucket trucks all headed South to help out with the response team...

David is still staying at the shelter set up at a neighboring town's elementary school...

Well I gotta go - my dad and step mom will think I've abandoned them... as I've been locked up in their room for over 2 hours while on the phone with AT&T.

Love from KY! ~bonnie

Oh boy, am I glad to hear from you. I've been so worried and my mind was running wild. I was afraid the news was too bad for you to even report. Having no electricity for weeks sounds bad until you think how bad things could've been! So glad that David is safe and your home survived. Enjoy your visit with your family. I'll be in Owensboro while you're in Kentucky! :)

I am SO glad to hear your great news, Bonnie. I've been checking all day to see a post from you. I hope many others have great news about their homes, too. I, like Judy, was fearful you'd not posted because the news was extra-bad......but you were on your way to Kentucky, so how COULD you post?? Silly me for being so worried and letting my mind run away with me, too. (I guess we gals are good at that!) Enjoy your time with your folks and I'm sure they will enjoy their time with the little ones.

WHEW!! Double good news.

Glad you and yours are doing well. I cannot imagine living where I had to be ready to evacuate ...

So glad to hear you all are safe and sound! What a long drive with 3 little ones, will your DH be able to fly out and help you drive back? NM sent 27 trucks and 45 linemen to help out, so hopefully it will go faster than they expect. I'm curious to know what kind of plant your Dh works at, I've got several friends here that worked at a ConocoPhillips plant there. You all as well as my beloved Texas will be in my prayers!

Oh, Bonnie - I'm so glad to hear that you and the kids are safely away. It hasn't been much fun, being without electricity, running water, and sewer for almost a week - but I can only imagine how much LESS fun it would have been with your 3 littles! Take heart - almost a full day after Entergy projected our eletric restoration date as September 29, here outside Conroe.... our power came back on last night about 10:30 (they tell me - I was down in Houston doing to a shift on the ambulance)... It was ABSOLUTE Heaven to come home today, and pour out a can of soup in a bowl and stick it in the microwave! Praying that your area gets back up and running, that God watches over your DH while you are gone, and that you have a safe trip home to Texas!

Hmmmm.....I'm wondering why we've not had any further news since Sept. 14. I'm thinking maybe the area by your dad lost power. Hopefully, we hear from you again soon and things are just fine.
